How Bowen saved me

So here is my success story with Bowen, and I don't mean as a therapist, but as a the patient.

It is April 2020, and we are in lock down. Due to a fall 2 months prior and then overexertion, I awoke with a terrible stabbing pain in my left side of my lower back, spreading down into the left leg. Basically, I had Sciatica! I have never known pain like it. It hurt to lie down, it hurt to stand for too long. Sitting was impossible. As we were in Lockdown, I wasn't able to see anyone for any sort of pain relief, other than painkillers that the doctor prescribed over the phone. I had to sleep on picnic ice blocks, and get up every two hours to move around and try to stretch out my back. This went on for 4 weeks. Cooking became very quick and easy dinners, which I ate either standing up or kneeling down. I couldn't drive, not that I could go anywhere anyway.

I was utterly miserable, having to use crutches to walk from one room to another, and either lying down or kneeling all day. I was on the phone to a friend who I met through our training of Bowen in 2016. She made a decision that this was classed as an emergency and drove down to me to treat me. We were both wearing face masks, and all the other paraphernalia we had to use back then. After one treatment, I was able to get rid of my crutches and not sleep on ice. The second treatment was 1 week later, which gave me even greater improvements. I was able to drive again. I could go for walks with my dog. Sleep was fantastic again and no more painkillers. The third and final treatment, I was able to drive to her for my treatment.

After the Bowen, as the week progressed, I continued to improve. So much so, that by the time lockdown was lifted, I was able to hitch up my caravan and drive up to Yorkshire for a change of scenery on my own (apart from my dog, of course).

I was able to build up my walks to 7 miles. It was hard to believe that in April and the start of May, I was in pure agony and now, I was living my life again. So for me, Bowen was my saviour.

Now don't get me wrong, I had a wonderful physio friend who did video calls with me to advise me on what exercises to do to help with the sciatica. I did these religiously each day. I will always be thankful to my friends who helped me through one of the toughest times of my life.
